The Wild Goose is so named as the trail crosses through Horicon Marsh - a famous rest stop for migrating Canadian geese. The trail runs for 35 miles from Highway 60 in Dodge County to Fond Du Lac. In Fond Du Lac the Wild Goose connects to the new municipal trails network. Horicon Marsh is a state wildlife area and bikers can stop by a nature center and use hiking trail on boardwalks through the marsh. Another attraction near the Wild Goose Trail is Nitschke Mounds Park where visitors can check out 40 effigy mounds dating from 800 CE.
