The Skunk and Foster Lake Segment of the Ice Age Trail is a 3.7 mile linear footpath. It is a moderately difficult hike. As the trail enters the Skunk and Foster Lake State Natural Area the terrain becomes hilly and scenic. This trail segment is well defined and easy to follow. It is a lonely segment separated by many miles of roads from the Waupaca River Segment to the south and the New Hope Iola Segment to the north.

A smattering of kettle lakes defines the Skunk and Foster Lake State Natural Area. The scenic hike looping around these kettles is hilly and set into deep forest. The trail continues through forest and over hilly terrain to the south till it meets the railroad at Sheridan.

A few unmarked intersecting access trails can be used to access the shoreline of Skunk Lake in the natural area. Be mindful of the yellow blazes of the Ice Age Trail to ensure you do not get off on one of these intersecting trails mistakenly. Otherwise the trail is well defined and well marked and there is a nice parking area for the natural area. This is a great hike for nearby residents and a popular dog walking area.
