Morton Forest County Park in Mazomanie WI

The 114 acres of driftless area parkland was donated to Dane County by Steve Morton who spent his younger years visiting this family-owned recreational land. The land has been held in a trust for many years, but only recently opened to the public as a county park.

Three primary trails are the focus of a visit to Morton Forest, The blue, yellow, and orange trails on the map below. Both the blue and orange trails climb steep hillsides to reach timber frame overlooks. Each of these trails require a moderate level of athletic fitness. The yellow trail is an easy loop in the valley that connects the blue and orange trails.

In the valley, visitors will find a substantial gravel parking lot, vault toilet, a nature center which once served as the Morton family cabin, and an old windmill which had run a water pump.
