The footpath winds through residential areas, restored parries, and a nature preservation area donated to the Ice Age Trail Alliance featuring other connecting loop routes.
The Valley View Segment stands alone, separated by several miles to adjacent IAT trail segments. The next segment heading eastbound is the Madison Segment, and the next trail heading westbound is the Cross Plains Segment

Ice Age Trail Valley View Segment |
The Valley View Segment is a nice hike in the Madison area and is especially brilliant in June and July when wildflowers are in bloom. Parking at the lot on Moraine Ridge and heading downhill into the Valley View Preserve brings hikers to intersections with the red and white trails. These trails can add another 2 miles to your hike. The Valley View Segment is close to Madison's growing population and adds essential miles and green space to the Ice Age Trail in Dane County.
