Ice Age Trail Madison Segment

The Madison Segment is a 3.1-mile easy section hike of the Ice Age National Trail. About half of its miles cross through the University Ridge Golf Course. Other parts of the trail are adjacent to asphalt paved bike paths linking neighborhoods on Madison's far west side. The Madison Segment connects directly to the Verona Segment going eastbound and is a few miles of connecting routes on the side of roads to reach the Valley View Segment heading westbound.

The Madison Segment is functional - it is the best that can be done in the most rapid growing urban sprawly area in Wisconsin to provide a continuous linkage for long distance hikers. Among its redeeming qualities is that it is accessible to a large urban population.

If you wake up early you can get through this section of trail before the golfers show up at 7am. If you do that, you can enjoy a good walk outdoors on Madison's far west side without disturbing golfers or having to duck wayward shots into the rough.
