One of the gems of bicycling in south central Wisconsin, the Sugar River State Trail winds from the Swiss village of New Glarus to Brodhead in Green County. Along the route the trail passes over 14 wood bridges, many of them over the Sugar River or Little Sugar River. A replica covered bridge crosses Norwegian River near Brodhead.

A nine-mile portion of the trail is also designated as the Albany Segment of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail. This portion of the trail between the Badger State Trail at Monticello and Albany has the most bridges and river views. The section north of Monticello is the most shaded portion of the trail and passes through deep forest with long understory views. Caves and rock outcroppings can also be found along the trail.

In Albany, take a break from hiking or biking to take a relaxed float down the Sugar River in an inflatable tube at S&B Tubing. This popular amusement is busy on almost any summer afternoon.
