Ice Age Trail Bohn Lake Segment |
In the heart of quiet and peaceful Waushara County the short Bohn Lake Segment is a popular nature walk. The footpath is a well-defined single track. This is a great local place for a weekend stroll.
The forest floor is carpeted in soft green grasses typical of oak savanna. Wildflowers are profuse in summer in the open fields and restored prairies. You might even see the endangered Karner blue butterfly along your walk. The trail route is set back from the high-water mark and never gets very close to Bohn Lake which is ringed with a swampy lake edge. Catch and release fishing is allowed here, but it would be difficult to find a comfortable spot to cast from.
Bohn Lake is a tunnel channel lake. It was formed by a chunk of glacier ice that settled into the ground along a river of meltwater that tunneled beneath the glacier.
Accessed from 9th ave is another parking area that serves an ADA accessible trail which leads to an overlook of Bohn Lake. A short, unmarked trail connects from the parking lot on hwy B to the accessible route and overlook.
