The Upland, Steinke Basin, and Johnson Moraine Trails converge in the Steinke Basin where they share a trail paralleling County Road DL. Johnson Moraine offers a mix of woodland and open prairie terrain that is easy to walk on a wide two-track mowed grass trail bed.

The Johnson Moraine trailhead in the Northern Lights Campground is hidden behind the entrance to the amphitheater. Between the Northern Lights and the Ice Age Campgrounds, the trail is unmarked and follows the road leading up the hill to the Ice Age camp. The trail picks up again in the Ice Age campground and continues across the Johnson Moraine past a wetland. The trail then cuts south and crosses County Road DL then meets at a 4-way intersection with the Steinke Basin and Upland Trails.

The Johnson Moraine Trail is enjoyed year-round by hikers, cross-country skiers, and mountain bikers.
